The oldest reading of this palace is parents and the useful one is larger: everybody a life has ever had to be answerable to. Employers, institutions, teachers, the people whose approval was worth having long before anyone thought to ask why. It describes what came down from above — support, expectation, debt, or the absence of all three — and how a person handles being outranked, which almost nobody counts as a skill until they meet somebody who lacks it. A strong reading means help arrives from above without having to be begged for, and often before it is asked for. A difficult one does not mean bad parents. It usually means an early self-sufficiency that was never actually chosen, and that has costs and advantages both. This palace is where they are counted.
